The weight reduction improved stability, with the vessel's list dropping from 40 to 8 degrees. The fire was declared under control and no longer posed a risk of sinking or pollution.
01 Sep 2025FireA fire broke out in the engine room of fishing vessel Awadi on the afternoon of September 1st in the port of Uxia Ribeira, Spain. The fire, believed to have been caused by a welding spark, quickly spread. No injuries were reported as the two crew members inside safely evacuated. Firefighters continued a complex operation through the night to extinguish the blaze. By September 2nd, efforts were focused on cooling the vessel and using bilge pumps to remove water and prevent the ship from sinking.
