| 05 Jun 2026 | War Damage | Natra (IMO 8729975) / Circon (IMO 8887519) In the early hours of June 5, 2026, the cargo vessels Natra and Circon were attacked by drones while transiting Taganrog Bay in the Sea of Azov en route to Rostov-on-Don to load grain. The attacks resulted in five fatalities and three injuries among the 25 Azerbaijan nationals serving as crew. Natra (IMO 8729975): The vessel was struck by four drones at approximately 00:45 local time, resulting in two crew fatalities and a fire that the crew eventually extinguished. The vessel remained afloat awaiting tug assistance. Circon (IMO 8887519): At approximately 01:55 local time, the vessel was struck four times in the superstructure, causing a fire. Three crew members were killed, and the remaining crew abandoned the ship, were rescued by passing merchant vessels, and were subsequently transferred to Yeysk, Russia. Injuries and Response: Three injured crew members were hospitalized in Yeysk. The injured seafarers received initial assistance from a passing Russian vessel. Two tugboats were dispatched to assist the Natra. While Russian officials attributed the strikes to Ukrainian drones, Robert Brovdi, a Ukrainian drone commander, claimed responsibility for striking five "illegally loitering vessels" in the region, alleging that these ships had engaged in the theft of Ukrainian grain and the transport of military cargo and fuel. |
