Casualties

DateTypeDetails
13 Nov 2024CollisionCollided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing significant damage and resulting in six worker deaths and $1.7 to $1.9 billion in damages. The ship suffered extensive damage, including a bow replacement, and port officials struggled to bring it into port. Litigation against the owner and operator continues, with the authorities seeking remuneration for all damages incurred.
26 Mar 2024CollisionUPDATE: 1-May-2024 The body of one of the six workers who died when the bridge collapsed was recovered by the Unified Command from a red truck. Five of the six victims have now been recovered. UPDATE: 28-Mar-2024 Two bodies have been recovered from a pick-up truck which was under water where the bridge collapsed. Divers are not able to safely navigate the water anymore due to concrete and debris in the water. Sonar scans are now being used but it's believed that vehicles, which may contain the other missing bodies, might be encased in the debris that came down from the bridge. Container ship collided with one of the pillars of Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, while en route from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka. There were no casualties or injuries on board the vessel. The collision caused several spans to collapse in the Patapsco River and Reuters reported that as many as seven people fell in the water. Emergency personnel, led by Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, immediately initiated rescue efforts, with no immediate reports of casualties.
