16 Jun 2026Medical EmergencyOn Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a fatal workplace accident occurred on board the Malta-registered Ro-Ro vessel Delphine while it was berthed at the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium. Incident Details: At approximately 18:00 local time, during the loading of semi-trailers and containers, an onboard towing vehicle struck a stack of containers. The impact caused the containers to shift, trapping a 54-year-old male signalman between the stack and the vessel's side structure. Outcome: The worker succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Status: The vessel was temporarily detained by authorities to allow for a forensic examination by maritime police and labor inspectors. Following the investigation, the ship was cleared to depart and is currently en route to Dublin, Ireland. The Delphine previously made headlines on April 16, 2025, when a fire broke out on one of its vehicle decks while it was also berthed at the Port of Zeebrugge.
