The Togo-flagged product tanker was boarded by nine armed men, who overran the vessel and disabled its Automatic Identification System (AIS) transmission to obscure its position. Voyage Details: Departed the port of Fujairah on March 24, loaded cargo, called at the Qana oil terminal in Yemen, and departed on April 30 en route to its next destination. Outcome: The vessel and its 12 crew members (composed of Egyptian and Indian nationals) were forcefully redirected across the Gulf of Aden. Latest tracking and satellite data place the fully laden tanker at anchor approximately 3.7 nautical miles off Bandar Beyla in eastern Somalia. The pirates have reportedly escalated ransom demands from $3.5 million to $10 million, holding the seafarers under restrictive conditions. No injuries or pollution have been reported at this stage. |
