Casualties

DateTypeDetails
17 May 2026CollisionOn May 17, 2026, at approximately 17:00 local time, the Panama-flagged chemical tanker Ginga Bobcat was involved in an allision on the Paraná River off Rosario, Argentina. While the unladen tanker was stationary at anchor, the Bolivian-flagged towboat HB Perseus, pushing a convoy of barges downstream toward San Nicolás de los Arroyos, struck the tanker's bow. Despite the tanker crew repeatedly sounding the horn to warn the approaching tow, the impact damaged the Ginga Bobcat’s bulbous bow and caused several barges to break free and drift. The Argentine Naval Prefecture temporarily suspended river traffic until the adrift barges were recovered and navigational safety was restored. A formal investigation into the incident has been initiated. No injuries or pollution were reported.
05 May 2026CollisionCollided with the Marshall Islands oil tanker Helios in the Port of Campana, Argentina. No injuries were reported. Ginga Bobcat, carrying 10,300 tonnes of sulfuric acid and traveling at 16 km/h, collided with the moored Helios at around 5:30 pm local time. Authorities activated safety protocols, assessed both vessels for damage, and monitored the area for potential leaks or contamination due to the hazardous cargo. Investigations into the collision's cause are ongoing.
