| 24 May 2026 | Fire | On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Hamburg fire department responded to a major fire aboard the Netherlands-flagged general cargo ship Jolyn while it was docked at Grevenhofkai in the Kuhwerderhafen section of the port. The vessel, operated by Royal Wagenborg, had arrived earlier that day from Hull, United Kingdom. The fire originated in a storage area within the stern of the vessel, prompting an intensive response involving approximately 80 emergency personnel, multiple hose lines, the city fireboat Branddirektor Westphal, and specialized divers. The blaze was brought under control after approximately three hours of effort, during which firefighters utilized breathing apparatus. Eight individuals suffered serious injuries, with seven—including one firefighter and six crew members—transported to the hospital, while one individual received medical care on-site. Following the extinguishment of the fire, authorities monitored temperatures in the affected areas before transferring the site to local police for a formal investigation. No pollution was reported. |
