| 07 May 2024 | Other | A chief engineer and second engineer working on the vessel, were convicted or violating a series of MARPOL regulations when their ship was near the petroleum terminal located in Sweren, New Jersey, US. The Chief engineer admitted the crew intentionally bypassed mandated pollution prevention equipment by discharging the oil waste from the engine room through the sewage system of the vessel into the sea. The second engineer pleaded guilty to concealing the oily waste discharge from the vessel into the sea and presented the false record book to the US Coast Guard during the vessel inspection. They are both facing a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. |
